Our Story

In the late 1990’s, Nelson Landis and his family opened the BC Fruit Store in Birds Creek as a family run business. In starting out, the business took orders for fruit only on certain weekends and as the demand grew the decision was made to be open on a regular basis.

While carrying bulk food items, BC Fruit also sold fresh produce indoors and after several years began to expand into outdoor plants and flowers. As the business was growing, the family decided to move the business from Bird Creek into Bancroft where it took on the current name of Landis Fruit Market.

In the year 2002, Nelson Landis became ill with cancer and transitioned from this world a short time later. His wife, Wanita Landis and her children, with the help of the community, carried on the business until 2018. While the produce expanded, Wanita also added different baking products and canned goods to add additional products to the shelves.

As the business continued to grow, expanding the fresh produce and outdoor plants to include perennial plants, and limited shrubs and trees. In 2018, the business ownership was transferred to Nelson Rohrer and continues to this day as Landis Fruit Market.

While most of the Landis Family has moved on to other things, Justina Landis continues in the role of manager, working to make it all run smoothly.

You can find Nelson Rohrer and his family in the day to day activities as they carry on the Landis Fruit market with the help friends and family.
